The Second Mother

A work of historical fiction

On the eve of WWI 20-year-old Margaret Peppers was a destitute widow with a 2-year-old daughter to support.  Seeking new purpose, she resolved to become a missionary.  But when her determination clashed with her sister-in-law's, her life -- and the life of her daughter -- would never  be the same.

From the lush mountains of the indigenous Philippines to the desert wasteland of a Japanese American concentration camp, The Second Mother is a story of sorrow and loss, perseverance and faith, healing and hope.
